The most important requirements for Decistor SPS are:
- It is a symbiosis of theoretical knowledge in the field of modeling, physical properties and materials handling on one hand and practical knowledge, condensed in rules of thumb of machine-suppliers and user-specialists on the other;
- It has a flexible and easy to access library containing various recycling machines as Unit Operation Models (UOM's);
- It has a flexible and easy to access library with waste descriptions, linking to a library with materials properties like density, magnetism, tensile strength and harshness;
- It has a possibility for economic optimization, based on prices in supply- and purchase contracts and on operating costs;
- It is able to deal with differences in moisture content;
- It is able to deal with differences in bulk density, calculating with weight flows and volume flows processed;
- It is user friendly, not only for a theoretical approach, but also for practical use in day-to-day operations management.
Basic design: technical choices
Compared to gases and fluids the modelling of solids requires extra dimensions on the particle level: size and shape. This requires a model that is discrete on particle level. For the convenience of the user this particle level can be translated to composition tables. Waste and products are defined as heaps of particles in the database.
Because of reciprocal cycles in the plant a dynamic time integrator is used. The waste heaps are linked to the flowchat with unit operations by means of a scheduler. Parallel processing of combinations of waste streams, entering he flowchart at different positions is possible.
The database is open for users to define and document their own specific waste streams, equipment and processes.
All data are stored in SQL data bases. As programming standard .NET applications are used and programming language is C#. Excell output is available.
